The Dracula Tape Saberhagen Dracula Series Book 1 eBook Fred Saberhagen

It is an excellent as an audio book. After all, Dracula is talking on a tape.
The good Count gives his version of events detailed in Bram Stoker’s novel. I read this book years ago and thought it was just O.K. I hadn’t read Stoker’s book, I thought it was enough to know the story via movie adaptations and various other secondary sources. It was, and the book does stand on its own.

Recently I read Stoker’s book. With that being relatively fresh, it brought a greater appreciation to Saberhagen’s work. He mined Stoker’s inconsistencies to good effect and weaved a narrative that perfectly dovetails with Stoker’s version. Great listen.

The Dracula Tape Saberhagen Dracula Series Book 1 eBook Fred Saberhagen Reviews

Well written - very glad to find copy again - why didn't I think of this sooner? See also, Holmes, Dracula File.
I had heard my folks talk about this book most of my life, it makes having read through the tedium of Beam Stoker's original novel worth it, as it logically justifies many of the glaring plotholes and gaffs by presenting the story from Vlad's perspective.
This book is well paced and a lot of fun. If you're the kind of person who enjoyed Kim Newman's Anno Dracula you would probably like this as well.
A misunderstood Vlad sets the story straight with a counter-account to the original story. I enjoyed reading from Dracula's perspective as he quoted relevant passages from Stoker's version to provide support to his explanations. It seems, a man with great wit and humor, was nothing more than unfairly maligned.
This book was excellently written and is definitely a must-read to those who were a fan of Stoker's Dracula.

I read The Dracula Tape in mebbe 1997. What a great re-spin of Bram Stoker!

According to Saberhagen, Dracula is a very proper middle-aged man living in a Chicago high-rise, and fighting the forces of evil (they're all trying to get him, y'know). Ya gotta love it!

The Dracula Tape has gone in and out of print, and I wanted to make certain I had a copy available. I was happy to see The Dracula Tape (Saberhagen's Dracula Series) for KF. Now that it's digital, it will live forever. (HEY! Just like the old man!)

The entire Dracula Series gets my highest recommendation! Holmes, the Borgias, and other familiar names pop up in the different books - they're all a hoot!
I honestly cannot tell you how much I love this book. I first discovered it when I was 14, and I still love it today, 30 years later. As a matter of fact, I've read all the books in Saberhagen's Dracula series and loved them all. HIGHLY recommended! This one, however, will always be #1 in my heart.

The Stoker novel told from Vlad's point of view. Hysterical! Especially when Vlad has a bit of a cynical, sarcastic side. And boy, does he hate Van Helsing!

I love Saberhagen's Dracula even more than Stoker's. He is witty, sarcastic, and oh so dead on in his evaluation of the situation.

Stoker put Vlad on the map. Saberhagen gave him personality. I reread this book every year, I love it that much. If you are at all a fan of Stoker's Dracula, you MUST read this book.

I'm usually don't gush like this over a book, but I am all fangirl squee over this one.
If you are a Dracula fan, you must read this book. I am a fan, and I loved it.

You won't know what to think of the count after you're done. My take - not a reliable narrator. But like an excellent lawyer, he makes his case.

Best moments are in the beginning at the castle with Jonathon Harker. Read it! Fun for all, but especially fans of the Stoker's work.

Apparently, "The Dracula Tape" has become a cult classic. I first read this in 1975 when my reading habits were developing into my own cult started by an unknown author, Stephen King. I found this book to follow up after King's "'Salem Lot". I read it, found it charming and went on to read subsequent books by Fred Saberhagen regarding Dracula and his warm, closely guarded relationship with the Harker family. Suspend belief and take this novel for what it is a joyride down memory lane for the King Vampire. You will find it totally self-serving, but Dracula in mufti still exudes his brand of charm. Read it in one sitting, if you can. But make certain the lights are all on and the doors and windows tightly locked. Enjoy!.
